I’m Bethany Al-Haidari: my background is in human rights law. I'm a single mother, an academic, a survivor, an advocate, and the woman behind Goodbye Bethany.

I didn’t choose the traumas that shaped me: domestic violence, entrapment & nearly losing my child, sexual assault and the suicide of the person I loved. Trauma broke me in ways I didn’t know a person could break and forced me to fight for solutions and ways to continue moving forward against the odds. These hardships also created empathy, understanding and compassion. They made me protective of those who are suffering abuse, violence, and the loss of their agency, power, dignity, and basic rights.

I have dedicated my educational path and my career to learning and fighting for justice on some of the most complex and heart-shattering matters. I have worked alongside heroes, learned from brave human rights activists, been trained by brilliant leaders, and witnessed some of the worst of humanity.​ Today, I share all of it: the academic, the advocate, the artist, the mother, the version of me who shattered, and the version of me who rebuilt - to support others in finding their agency, their voice, solutions to problems, and their way forward.

I share not because I think I'm better than anyone or because have it all together - but because I know what it’s like to need someone who understands the messiness of it all and doesn’t look away.
